Pet license requirements and ordinances
Pet licenses are required in all areas of Larimer County. Depending on where you live and the type of animals you have, you may need to renew your license annually.

Fort Collins
- All cats and dogs four months and older must be licensed annually.
- Spayed or neutered: $17 per year
- Intact (not spayed or neutered): $60 per year
- Animals under one year of age: $17
- Senior citizen discount: Seniors (62+) who reside within Fort Collins city limits and who qualify for low-income programs are eligible for a license for each pet at no charge. Please use getfoco.fcgov.com to complete an online application. To complete the application by phone or mail call 970-416-2350. These license fees will be paid by the City of Fort Collins. Licenses must be renewed annually. *If your pet is over one year of age, they must be spayed/neutered to qualify for this discount.
- Goats must be licensed annually.
- Annual fee is $25 per goat (two goats required per ordinance). You must apply before acquiring goats.
- A one-time fee of $30 provides the required license for chicken and duck coops; license applies to all chickens and ducks within the coop.
- All goat, chicken, and duck enclosures must be inspected by Animal Protection & Control prior to licensing. Click here to learn more.

Loveland
- All cats, dogs, pot-bellied pigs, or dwarf goats four months and older must be licensed annually.
- Spayed or neutered: $17 per year
- Intact (not spayed or neutered): $60 per year
- Senior citizen discount: If you are age 62 and older, and reside within Loveland city limits, you are eligible for a license for each pet at no charge. Please apply in person at our Larimer Campus. Unincorporated Larimer County
- Dogs four months and older must be licensed annually.
- Spayed or neutered: $17 per year
- Intact (not spayed or neutered): $60 per year
- Senior citizen discount: If you are age 62 and older, and income qualified for Larimer County services, you are eligible to receive a license for each pet at no charge. You must renew on an annual basis and the license fee will be paid by Larimer County. To inquire, call a city representative at 970.498.7683. - Intact (not spayed or neutered): $60 per year
- Animals under one year of age: $17

- All cats and dogs four months and older must be licensed annually

Berthoud, Estes Park, Johnstown, and Windsor
These areas have their own licensing programs for residents who live within the town limits. We recommend that you check with your town to determine what licensing requirements there may be. Please see contact information below for each jurisdiction.

LICENSE TAGS
Your cat or dog must wear the silver, round license tag and rabies tag at all times. If you lose your pet’s current license tag you can purchase a new one for $2.50. Please call us at 970-226-3647 ext. 2010 to request a replacement tag.
