What is Critter Camp?

We strongly believe that animal wellness tomorrow begins with education today. Our Humane Education Department runs a series of Critter Camps throughout the year, designed to provide our youth with experiential learning, hands-on activities, and engaging lesson plans, all in the world of animal welfare and our beloved pets.
d
Understanding the principles of animal safety and fostering positive interactions with a diverse array of creatures are essential steps towards fully enjoying all that (both domestic and wild) animals have to offer. By fostering empathy and understanding, we aim to cultivate a sense of responsibility towards the welfare of animals.
d
Critter Camp isn’t just about learning facts; it’s about inspiring action. We want our campers to leave with a newfound passion for making a difference in the lives of animals, whether it’s by volunteering at shelters, supporting conservation efforts, or simply being mindful of their own pets’ needs. Together, we can create a safe community where humans and animals coexist harmoniously, and Critter Camp is where that journey begins.

Day Camp Registration Now Open!

February 16th: Better Together

Our February camp is centered around the theme Better Together, exploring the special relationship between people and pets. Campers will learn how our actions and choices can make animals’ lives healthier, happier, and more secure through kindness, responsibility, and proper care.

Through hands-on activities games and animal focused lessons, campers will also discover how pets give back to us in meaningful ways. This camp encourages empathy, teamwork, and compassion while showing that when people and animals care for one another, everyone benefits. We truly are better together.

March 6th & May 15th: Pawsitive Training
Our March and May day camps focus on the theme Pawsitive Training, introducing campers to kind and effective ways to teach animals using positive reinforcement. Campers will learn how rewarding good choices helps pets feel confident, safe, and eager to learn.

Through interactive activities, games, and lessons, campers will explore the basics of clicker training and practice using praise, treats, and clear communication to encourage desired behaviors. This camp builds patience, empathy, and understanding while showing how gentle training methods strengthen the bond between people and pets.

Camps are for children in kindergarten through 5th grade.
